User Reviews about Panasonic TC-P54S2 54-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV
Everything it was promised to be! I highly recommend it. For the money you will be hard pressed to find better. The only cons that that I can come up w for this TV is that it does make a faint humming noise when it is turned on. But, unless u are sitting 1 foot away from the TV while watching, the sound is inaudible. Great plasma! -- Great deal
The TV arrived defective but the problem was quickly taken care of by Panasonic. I got the 50" and 54" versions of the TV for different rooms in the house. The 50" looks slightly better in my opinion, but that is expected considering the size difference. HD FiOs looks incredible, my XBOX 360 looks even better, and blu-rays are absolutely mind-blowingly clear. The colors are excellent and required minimal tweaking. I did calibrate to THX standards, but it was fairly close to the out of box settings. If you own this TV do yourself a favor and set it to Cinema mode and leave it for all viewing types. It's clearer than the other modes. The power draw is near the level of LCDs, blacks are deeper, and whites are shockingly nearly as bright too! A fast screen refresh rate and life over 30 years before dropping to half its brightness makes this TV pretty much impossible to beat dollar for dollar. Would definitely buy a Panny again. -- Great TV, especially for the price!
After repeated back-order of the new Panasonic 58" plasma, I "settled" for this TV.
Although only slightly smaller, but MUCH less expensive it features a superb picture that has deep colors, true black, and very bright (if needed for a light room).
As a retired broadcast exec. I'm fussy about my video, and this set is excellent in almost every way. Even the bezel and glass screen minimize glare. The speakers are only adequate, but with the mony I saved thru Amazon I'm just installing a surround system.
The only problem is a faulty high voltage circuit emitting a hum or buzz when displaying bright images. This was evident by the third day, and getting worse as the set warmed up. A call directly to Panasonic (with only a 3-minute wait) scheduled a local service call. Two guys just left having ordered a replacement part to be sent overnight "because you have Concierge Service thru Amazon/ Panasonic". I'll be without this set for a couple of days next week, but I was very impressed with the no hassle - no excuse service.
The original delivery was also "white glove" with two guys unpacking and setting up the TV to my existing Charter Cable service.
Yes, the TV should not have been defective out-of-box; but I appreciate the better than average service that I've received so far.
UPDATE:
After 48 hours, TV was returned (and set up) working perfectly! A defective high voltage transformer in the power supply was replaced. All costs and on-site pickup/delivery handled by a local repair company under contract with Panasonic.
On another note; if you're concerned about picture burn-in or image retention with this plasma set, don't be. Panasonic has a built in automatic "pixelator" and also a manual (if you'd prefer) moving image bar that eliminates any need to baby this set during it's initial setup.
-- Great Pix ... but dreaded "buzz"
I just got my TV delivered today, I hooked up my PS3, Xbox360, HD DVR cable box and it looks fantastic so far. You can beat the price/performance ratio on Plasma. -- Excellent Plasma and great price
You are not going to find a better TV for the price. It is by far the best TV out there.
I have been watching a lot of TV on it and it is absolutely perfect. Things seem so life like on the tv it is unbelievable. I cant wait to watch things on blue ray and see the actual quality that it will produce. I do wish it had a theater mode (thx) but it does not come on the S line. Watching sports is awesome because there is no pixilation that is caused because of the natural 600 refresh rate on the tv. If you are looking for a great tv from a great manufacturer then this set if the perfect fit.
-- Great TV for the Price
